A significant loss occurred in my life on July 4, 2023. My surrogate mother freed herself from her aging body. She was 101.

Her family hosted her 100th birthday celebration last year.  She wore a new outfit and a tiara.  I’m grateful I saw her in her final days. Now she is free of the body that held her spirit captive.

In Bert’s younger days, we enjoyed movies, lunches, visiting art galleries, and short walks around her beautiful home. She was an artist, a writer,  a gardener, a lover of life and a great role model for aging gracefully.  There is clearly a void in my life.
